Feel the Force: How to Train in the Jedi Way

Feel the Force: How to Train in the Jedi Way

Dismayed at the male/female breakdown of some of the personal development type workshops I run at QUB, I was thinking something along the lines of… Young men are not so interested in personal development, what might prick their ears..?  Aha!  Name the course after a Star Wars theme!  The ideas and techniques are similar, so that might make them think…

I got more than he bargained, when it all kicked off on Tuesday last week.  Not only did the News Letter pick up on the quirky workshop title, but the Stephen Nolan Show wants to interview me at some point and the BBC NI published an online article!  Then there was the ‘photoshoot’ with the South and North Belfast News, the radio interviews with Radio Foyle and Citybeat

Finally, and most surprisingly of all, the Guardian Educational Supplement hot on the heels of the Times Educational Supplment phoned for further information, in order to put together an article.

If you’d like to book a place on the workshop at QUB, please click for details – Feel the Force: How to Train in the Jedi Way (15/11/08).

Watch this space for a hooded Jedi near you!

  1. This is so dumb. The star wars movies were dumb. I’m a huge fan of sci-fi movies and space exploration and whatever that relates with space but star wars? Never got the point…

  2. I think the SW movies have a weakness in that they’re not based on a good novel or series of books. Rather, the books came after the movie. This leaves them open to a certain charge of shallowness. I get that. But I would make two points. (1) There are books that influenced the thought behind the SW plot – see the works of Joseph Campbell in particular. If you want something less ‘dumb’ go there. (2) Actually, if you look online for the SW movie scripts and give them a read, there’s a depth and detail there that is easily lost in the overblown special effects and childish antics of the newest movies. Thanks for your comment hal9000!

  3. I agree with darkon. they shulod wait on Jabba’s palace and desert skiff. Instead, they shulod make a cloud city to go with Cloud Car, and a Tusken rader ambush set, [EP. 4], with Ben kenobi’s hut. I think that these would be good idea’s because if they don’t make Jabba’s Palace they need something to go with Cloud Car, and they haven’t made tusken raider’s in a long time.
