Slurp Your Blog With Blurb

Meandering from Twitter to the web and back again, I came across a new word.  Slurp.  Where I come from that is something you do with your tea.  Or if you’re not very well brought-up, your soup.  You may even do it to a McDonalds Toffee Sundae.  In any case, the words blog and slurp do not normally appear in the same sentence, where slurp is the verb and blog is the noun.

The website where I encountered this phenomen, slurping your blog, was blurb, yet another cool word.  (I’m a word freak; I should have studied Etymology or Semantics at university.  I love to find origins and links and alternative meanings.  As it was, I ‘read’ yet another fascinating, but highly useless Arts degree.)

Blurb is a website where you can download software that will allow you to convert your photos, text, artwork, wedding pictures, portfolios, holiday snaps or blog content to a real book format.  You can choose size, layout and cover design among other features and prices start at $12.95.  I reckon this could be useful to those who need to showcase their products, especially entrepreneurs or those just starting out in business.  If you can take reasonably sharp photos, you need not pay an expensive portfolio-maker.  What type of professionals could make use of the tool?  Anyone from plant hire to jewellery design.  I must think of a way to make use of it myself!  Click here for ideas.  If the process is anyway interesting/useful and the end-product is successful, I’ll blog it.  I may blog it anyway.  :P

The process of uploading your blog posts to your book is called slurping.  It’s kind of like what you imagine alien goo might do if it were to be transported from one dimension to another…  There now.  Aren’t you glad you read all the way through?
